New Technology in the Sunshine State: Florida Legislature's Voting System Updates

We at IRC would like to take an opportunity to spotlight a recent installation that we completed for the Florida Legislature.

Our team worked with the great folks in the Florida House and the Florida Senate to update many key aspects of the voting system there. From the cabling in the floor to new displays and full integration with other legislative technologies, we worked closely with the legislative staff to develop custom solutions which addressed their specific needs and stuck to the approved budget for the project.

After removing the old and outdated equipment in both the House and Senate, IRC did a comprehensive update of the floor system. We installed new cable in the raceways, new member voting station electronics and terminated our home-run style system to new system control racks in the equipment rooms.

We also installed new 4mm full-color LED displays in the House and Senate, which will take them into the next couple of decades with bright, eco-friendly, and reliable display technology that is without equal in the industry.

In the House, we provided a full video system that enables them to display videos, photos, etc on the new 4mm full-color LED displays. We also interfaced with the state’s The Florida Channel to overlay vote information for their broadcast feed. As well, in the House, IRC installed our new .NET Voting software. With what is the first legislative use of this level of functionality between software and display systems, IRC customized the software to allow the House to bring up full bill text on the center display board while a bill is being addressed and debated on the floor.

The Senate is using its new 4mm full-color LED displays for member names, votes and information, all of which is available to display in a staggering array of colors. Additionally, in the Senate, IRC provided them with not only new member voting electronics but new member voting buttons as well with long-lasting LED indicator lamps.

It all made for a fantastic installation for our IRC technicians and we know that the Florida Legislature is enjoying their new technology and capabilities as much as we enjoy having provided it for them. After all, tailor-made legislative solutions for our customers, whether existing or new, are what we do here at International Roll-Call.
